Williams surprised me with this one--at first I thought I really wasn't going to like Lucy. There were a few moments that made me think she was going to be a weak, damsel-in-distress-looking-for-her-prince (and I'm not one to forgive weak female characters). At one point I even found myself miffed that Joe was so inexplicably attracted to her. But as the story unfolds, Lucy stands up and very clearly says she's not looking for a man to save her.I disagree with the reviews that judge this for being a poor retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Williams's first book in this series is very much B&TB, and it captures the charm and spirit of the classic. This story is something different. The focus is much more on the camaraderie between the characters we already know and love and developing those relationships alongside the Joe/Lucy romance.
Geraldine and Gemma shine out in this.

I loved this series. I read it in reverse (story of my life) order but it didn't matter.
I'm really hoping we get another in the series. Maybe Alex, Paul or Gemma?
Well done!!
I really have enjoyed this series and have read the books many times over!
Great catching up with the characters from Running Scarred, five years on.
This is a lovely story, with lots of funny moments, and some (very) painful ones. Characters throughout the book really come to life, the good as well as the truly nasty ones.
Some characters enter the story that just MUST get their own books in the future. Jackie Williams, please don't make us wait too long!
One mistake noted towards the conclusion of the book, where two names were switched, something an editor should have noticed. Still, a 5-star read.
Perfectly written! It's always a pleasure reading one of Jackie's military books. I believe this one is my favorite by far. I loved Joe and Lucy's story extremely.
I love Jackie William's books. I love that the heroes are never perfect, the heroines have tough choices to make, and that the world just seems a bit more beautiful while you are reading her words. In the way that the author tells the story, you know that she honors the sacrifice that a soldier makes for their country, and that even scarred or missing a limb the men are still sexy. This sequel did not disappoint! The story is compelling enough for me to want more... and more.
Forever Scarred has made me forever a fan of Jackie Williams. She has a gift for telling a sprawling, intriguing story filled with complex characters worth rooting for. From the moment I met Joe and Lucy, I was firmly in their corner, wincing with every obstacle that came their way and cheering my heart out when they somehow managed to overcome them. There are several intricate sub-plots, adding authenticity and spice to an already sizzling tale. To her credit, Williams also reminds us to never take for granted those brave souls who protect their country often at great personal sacrifice and price. Forever Scarred satisfies from beginning to end.
I didn’t look at this as a Beauty and the Beast story. I saw it as a normal love story with a scarred character—many stories have characters scarred by emotional issues rather than physical, that’s all. Joe and Lucy fall in love pretty much at first sight. There was good dialogue and descriptions without going overboard. I liked the setting and the office conference type theme—a bit different than many I see these days. I did think there was too much emphasis put on Joe’s face but other than that, I enjoyed Forever Scarred.
