Gable The Powers That Be Book 1 edition by Harper Bentley Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

So I enjoyed the book in general. I love the broken gable. Yes he was a ass at times and a pig but he was a good guy. Gable was living in the shadows of his brothers trying to forge his way and become someone. He had a sad ending in his first year at college that affected his views on love and relationships but he was still a overall sweet guy. He made mistakes, was confused by his feelings, tried to become a better person and scout did throw it in his face. Scout I liked at first but with her actions I slowly didn’t agree with her. the book starts you see her view on gable and generally agree. As they get to know each other anonymously you see who gable really is. When real life gable wouldn’t talk to her but project anonymous gable does she gets mad. As they begin to date in real life she compares the two. Than when she sees he is at a place where he is lost she doesn’t let him figure things out. She makes assumptions. Finally when both project people meet and he knows it’s her but ignores that she gets angry and storms off. When he tries to talk to her and explain she gets all high and mighty. Even her family disagrees with her. This is why i turned from liking to not so much. She wasn’t fair. When a character can illicit that response the story is one of interest. The book is fun and generally lighthearted. A boy is trying to find his way and meets a girl he wants to become a better man for. I love gable the most in this book because of this. Because he tries, because you see his conflicting emotions playing out. A fun read with some fun characters and a interesting twist in the love story.
Gable is the first book in the Powers That Be series and I am definitely hooked! The writing style, the story, the LOL moments and the broken heart was all worth it! This book is amazing!

I know I'm late to the game in reading this series, and trust me, I'm kicking myself for not reading it sooner, but let me tell you.. this book is AWESOME!

Scout just moved to Seattle to attend college, and has heard all about the Powers brothers, she never expected to run into one of them and immediately hate him, only to find out how much she hated him still the second time she ran into him. Gable is a playboy, a bad boy, and Scout thinks he only wants one thing. When fate (or coincidence) steps in, these two get a lot closer than either one of them expected.

I will say, Gable really made me mad many times in this book. He would come off as cocky, and I couldn't see what Scout saw in him at times. But then, we would get to see the real Gable, and he has been hurt, he's a sweetheart, and no wonder everyone around him seems to fall in love. Not many people get to see the side of Gable that Scout does, and the way she handled things at times angered me, but both of these characters were at fault.

Just when I thought everything was finally going to work out for these two, there are some misunderstandings, and I wanted to strangle Scout for being so stupid and not listening to Gable. She at times came off as immature, but in reality, I really think she was trying to protect her heart. She knew how she felt about Gable, but wasn't prepared for him to feel the same, nor was she prepared for everything that happened between them. My heart goes out to both of these characters, both of them have been hurt in the past, and don't trust easily.

Overall this book was amazing. I loved Gable and Scout's story and can't wait to get to know more of the Powers brothers. There is definitely some angst in this book, and a ton of laughs. Scouts best friends Amy and Bhodi were awesome, and definitely added a lighter element to this story.

If you're looking for a quick new adult read, I highly suggest one-clicking your copy of Gable today! The whole story gripped me, but the epilogue, it was great!!!
I have read this authors "true love trilogy" and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have actually read the series twice. So when I came across this book I had high hopes. The cover of the book was not for me, but I was always taught don't read a book by it's cover. This is good advice, because I have found some gems of a read packaged up with less then appealing covers.

The characters were just strange to me. The sassy roommate, gay friend, and naive attitude of the main character Scout just seemed so cliche and not executed in a like-able, fun way. I loved the name Scout - but thought she was beyond annoying! She was supposed to be majoring in journalism, but her writing (emails) back and forth to Gable were so awkward and not impressive. Furthermore, the teacher told them not to get too personal with their pen pal. But the first email she gave her life story, family background away in a condensed version. Huh? Then it didn't take many weeks before they were sexting via email. Does he know it is me or not got old really fast. And believe me you would have to be dumber than a box of rocks to not know who the other pen pal was on the other end. There was no secretive messaging or even subtle hints - they laid it out clearly in technicolor. In other words, they truly gave everything away....

I finished the book really hoping it would get better. Sadly no! Everything was so over the top - and came across as a somewhat twisted fairytale and had me thinking it was just down right yuck. Gable is a foul mouth, sexual harasser, obnoxious lead male. His antics were not romantic or even hot - they were cringe worthy several times in the book for me.

I hate that I didn't like this. This author does have talent, but this book was a rushed jumble character mess! It was a HUGE let down. I am not going to continue this series - but I will buy other works from this author. I am willing to give her another try at some point. I sadly can only give two stars - one because you have to at least give one and the second star because I did finish it. However, my recommendation is to pass on this one. Look at my other reviews and see if our likes and dislikes are the same. This is merely my opinion.
A definite must read! You will love Gable and laugh at Scout. Such a fun and sexy read.
